6 Reasons why your Home Office needs a Whiteboard
Despite the explosion in technology and smartphone applications, the traditional whiteboard still has its uses! If you are yet to purchase a whiteboard for your home office, then the following tips will help you to see the benefits - consider it an investment (and a bargain!).
1. Manage your daily tasks
If you tend to be more hands on and you prefer physically writing things down, then your whiteboard provides a great way to keep an eye on your tasks for the day. The temptation to procrastinate is far greater when your task list is private or less visible, such as within an app on your phone, but a whiteboard is more than background activity - it can’t be closed or switched off. Because it’s out in the open for you to see, you are constantly aware of the tasks at hand.
2. Keep hold of important bits and pieces
If you have a magnetic whiteboard, then you can attach any bits and pieces that may be of importance but are yet to be filed. This could include paperwork, letters, receipts etc. providing a great method of keeping your desk nice and clear whilst creating a convenient spot to keep everything in one place.
3. Messages to others
Whiteboards are a refreshing way of writing reminders and messages to your family, colleagues, or even to yourself! One great idea is a continual shopping list that the family can add to when required. Once an item has been purchased from the list, simply wipe it away…
4. Play around with your ideas
If you’re brainstorming, whether individually or with others, a whiteboard can work much better than existing software. You have the freedom to add and remove things without needing to scribble things out or fight with “error” messages, and putting your ideas down is a great way of tracking your thought process leading up to the end result.
Designers may find this to be an especially useful option when drawing up brief sketches or studies, plus it reduces paper waste.
5. Get inspired!
You can use your whiteboard to write down motivational quotes to encourage you to stay focused throughout the working day, such as “Stop looking at this and get to work!” It’s amazing the difference one motivational quote can make to your overall mindset for the day.
6. Stay in contact
You might want to write down the phone numbers of everyone living in your house along with any other relevant emergency numbers. This saves you from wasting time during emergencies searching through your phone or an address book for a specific number.
